It's funny reading the articles by the establishment press about how Pete is rising fast and then you see pictures of three people around him. They are so desperate to find someone to defeat Bernie. They better pray like hell that Uncle Joe doesn't stick is foot in his mouth more than the 150 times we know he will.
Someone mentioned the Justice Democrats as being the reason for successes by progressives. AOC was certainly helped by them, as were others, but they are far from the only source of help. Bernie's organization, 'Our Revolution' has been at the very least, on par with them. They were the cog in AOCs campaign. In fact, I give 'Our Revolution' credit for not helping Beto, whereas the 'Justice Democrats' did help him.
The seeds of our involvement in Vietnam were sown shortly after the end of WWII. Both parties coupled with our intelligence services and funded by the industrial complex with an unfed hunger, and going against the often stated knowledge that we should not ever get involved in a land war Asia did just that. The one thing history books show and always will is that both parties had their finger prints all over this. Of all of our major conflicts that was the dumbest one with the worse treaty imaginable. Coupled with the problems it led to and caused on the home front it was a very black time for the United States. But with all that said I don't believe we will ever get away from dabbling in the business of other countries. It might not be "colonialism" but it will keep getting us into messes off shore.
Bernie now beats Trump head to head in WI, MI and PA in polling. If Hillary won those three states, she'd be in office right now.
Bernie is the front runner nationwide on 18-29 yr olds by a country mile. No surprise here, question is, will they get out and vote? This was taken before Lucy Flores spoke out about Joe being a creep so one would imagine same poll his numbers will drop. https://www.commondreams.org/news/2...020-rivals-among-young-democratic-voters-poll
First quarter haul: $18.2MM 900k total donations This is for the first quarter and he didn't announce New Years Day, he announced 6 weeks ago. None of this was corporate cash. He has $14MM leftover from previous campaign coffers he's going to roll into it, he could've gone all Beto-like and said it was $32.2MM (or, really, he could have added that 14 + 6 on the first day and said it was 20MM in the first 24 hours)
525,000 individual, unique donors. In 41 days, with 0 fund raising events, almost all of it under $100 ($20/avg)
20% of Bernie's donors were first time supporters. About 100,000 are registered Independents and 20,000 are registered Republicans. Wow.
I wouldn't put a lot of stock in the Republican numbers. I'm registered Republican right now and gave money to Colyer, but only because I think Kobach is a douchebag.
I was too when I was in Lawrence, to vote the lesser of two evils. See also my thread on Mike Gravel, I'm sure a lot of the donors were thinking Bernie is the least likely to defeat Trump. I'd like to see the numbers from the other campaigns and see how they compare
A picture is worth a thousand words and the photograph above is one of the many reasons why I support Bernie Sanders.
New poll out has Bernie with the highest favorability ratings of all announced candidates among African Americans (56%) and Latinos (46%) and yet today we still have major news outlets in their op-eds saying Sanders is piss poor among minorities.
Where did that come from? Since we're talking about ICE, I don't think it should be occupied. It should be abolished
Oh, that was light years ago. You're a small government guy, why wouldnt you want to destroy the big bad, ever treading government partly?
I wonder how ICE is funded. Socialism! YEt another reason conservatives should advocate for the destruction of ICE!
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name MOTHER OF EXILES. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Bernie was able to pass a war powers resolution through the Republican owned Senate and also through the House. Remember, the Republican owned Senate rarely would pass anything from the Dems just on general principle. This is a massive feat. Even they realize the genocide in Yemen that Obama started with the Saudis and that Trump is perpetuating is god awful. Of course Trump will veto it. But this speaks volumes of Bernie's abilities to mercilessly work hard for what he wants, you can hate what he stands for, you can hate him as a person but you have to recognize his ability to get things done and his work ethic and honesty.
https://newrepublic.com/article/153462/bernie-sanders-frontrunner-obviously I had a hate/love (mostly hate) relationship with The New Republic going back to mid 1990s. But they present an article here which is spot on. Like or hate Bernie, if you want an exact window on the state of the Democratic primary season so far and Bernie's standing within it, you should read this word for word. It's only a couple minutes to read. It basically summarizes everything i've said: - Bernie is the front runner despite getting no press - massive support in polling and money - Biden's scenario, Beto and Butigieg as well
That's not an answer. Clearly you don't understand all the responsibilities of ICE. Instead you'd rather quote the Statue of Liberty poem. I'll still be waiting for an answer if you ever decide to give one.
He's getting a lot of pres in the Republican Daddy world AKA Fox News and the conservative alt press circles because they think Trump would destroy Bernie (you know me, I disagree). He's also getting a lot of hit jobs in the WaPo Op-Ed section because Bezos owns it and Bernie shamed him into paying his workers $15/hr - the man who makes $200m PER DAY is upset about having to put his workers off of starvation wages. But MSNBC, CNN, NBC, CBS, et al virtually ignore him. They go as far as to leave him off of infographics when disucssing the 2020 field. Virtually no reporting about the massive rallies all over the country so far. They are just now starting to come around because his fundraising haul is record breaking.
I believe we should abolish ICE because I have no problems with immigrants coming in here. We've litigated this 10,000 times on this board already. It's quite old. You're not going to convince me otherwise and I'm not going to convince you either.
I have no problems with immigrants coming in here legally, and neither does ICE. That's where we differ I suppose. I guess stopping almost 5,000 violent gang members from roaming our streets doesn't matter to some people. They just like to complain and use the victim card...
We can turn this into a court case over roving violent gangs coming over the border, and this is where I'll say we created this mess by manufacturing genocide all over latin america for profit and say these are mostly families seeking a better life and you'll likely not care but double down on the criminal gangs coming over and ignore the genocides I pointed out and I'll disagree and oh hey it's been done a thousand times on here, you're late for the party. We both know where we stand on this, and on virtually everything we could be not more diametrically opposed. You can either agree this much, or go the @1lvhawk route and throw a hissy fit and go to name calling, then I can not take you seriously, like ever, and you can say I'm hiding from you. Your call, I would prefer to engage in meaningful discourse with the occasional friendly lampooning, but whatevas cleva.
Hooo boy! Latest Emerson polling. Bernie #1, Biden #2, Warren #3 in MA. Bad news for Warren, she should just drop out now, she's can't crack the top two in her home state. Pete #4 then the really, really, really bad choices to follow with the exception of Tulsi but she's irrelevant. Beto is learning the harsh reality that outside of Texas he is going to have to really work for it (and TX isn't a lock for him there either).
Author of two books, one of them best-seller, will reveal his taxes before on Monday. We all know he is a millionaire - that's what happens when your write best-selling books. MSM continues to push the 'belated' narrative despite the fact 15 other candidates have not released theirs. Never mind were 10 months before any votes are cast.
So Bernie’s now an evil millionaire? How much of his money is he going no to give to the IRS since he’s not paying his fair share. That’s what I want to know. Is he completely full of sh!t or did he put his money where his mouth is? I bet that he’s completely full of sh!t...
He's always advocated paying the fair share and he's called out the wealthy that choose to buy politicians to change policy so they can pay less. Now that he's had a $170k+/yr salary for years and two best-selling books, it would be hypocritical of him to all the sudden change his own policy he's ran on since for the last 30 years to exempt himself. The only people that are going to make an issue of this are the centrist democrats who fawn over the neoliberal candidates and loathe Bernie; they're already seeing what I wrote and they're cooking up his 10 years isn't good enough therefore something must be hidden going back to 11 or 12; no matter what they will not be placated and there will always be something. Edit; could be some conservatives like you that think he's full of it too. I mean, he's a threat so people want to believe anything that could be considered a bad thing I suppose
Oh, and on the 15th on Tax Day he's going to do a Town Hall on FOX NEWS. He'll already have released his taxes and a bunch of angry, misguided souls will tune into Fox and see him explaining his platform for the first time. He did this last cycle and it worked out very well for him.
Early CA Poll: Biden 26 Bernie 18 Harris 17 (her home state) Warren 7 Buttigieg 7 O'Rourke 4 So much for Beto mania. Pete some consistently above him and right around Warren. Biden doesn't seem to have dropped much from touchy-feely-gate. Not good for Harris
I respect that. My only question is, will his taxes show he paid his proposed rate for millionaires or will he only have paid the bare minimum and taken all of his deductions? Because people who sincerely believe in a cause put their money where there mouth is. Hypocrites do not. I’ll be interested to see.
