SELF WAS ASKED ABOUT KU'S 3 MCDONALD'S ALL-AMERICANS (QUOTE)

"Well, I thought it was great. I thought it was well deserved. When you're in college and you play college basketball, the goal each year is the Final Four because that's what is publicized: Road to the Final Four. This is a Final Four team, all that. That's how it's sold. When you're a high school player, everything is sold on, can you make the McDonald's team? I mean, that's the end result that you want to try to get to. So, to have three of our four recruits all make the game is exciting. And certainly, I'm happy for them. And I'm also hoping that they think that, "Even though I'm proud and glad I made it, it doesn't mean much." Because once you get to college, what happened in your previous high school career isn't going to help you compete at the next level. And what you do here, once you get to the pros, you've got to do it all over again. So, I'm happy because they excelled at the highest in their high school level, even though the season's not over, but understand also, and they'll understand, the work starts now. But I think it's a great, great accomplishment for those kids that have worked so hard. And those families, over the last many years, to put themself in that position."

Staff visiting high schools

I’ve been following KU Coaches on Twitter for the past 5 years. With the exception of Emmet Jones, I have never seen high schools recognize our staff visits as much as now. Furthermore, I can’t remember our Head Coach hitting the road as much as Leipold has the past couple of weeks. I wonder if having Ianello as GM allows Leipold to do this. I’m also impressed by the footprint the staff has laid out. I’ve seen our coaches anywhere from the KC metro area, Texas, Nebraska, Alabama, etc. I don’t know if any of this means anything. Just thought it was interesting to see high school coaches recognizing staff visits when I hadn’t seen it much before.

NBA all star teams by college

Does anyone ever look at all the NBA players from each college and compare those groups if they were to play a tournament? KU players vs. Duke players for example. I don't really follow the NBA much, so there may be someone in the media that does this and I just don't know. KU's team would be pretty salty right now, but maybe I don't follow the NBA enough to know that we wouldn't actually be a top group.

Athletic Article: CFB Transfers

Good story in The Athletic today:

A couple high lights:
The standout running back from a Group of 5 program got an unsolicited call from a coach at a Power 5 program.

The coach made a promise: Come here, and we can make sure you make the most of your name, image and likeness.

And he put a number on it: $200,000.

The problem? This particular running back wasn’t one of the more than 1,000 FBS scholarship football players who entered his name in the transfer portal during the past year.

“It’s a reality,” a Group of 5 assistant coach told The Athletic this month. “(Tampering) is going on right now.”

As semesters begin across college campuses, just more than 50 percent of players who have entered the portal have announced new homes. The longer a player is stuck in the portal, the more questions coaches have about why, like when a house is stuck on the market for months on end.

“The level of discontent among the athletes in college football is at an all-time high,” a veteran Power 5 assistant said. “We gotta kind of coddle them, baby them. I’m just telling you. We try not to, but man (pause), it’s terrible, actually. You try to keep kids happy, but you can’t. There’s 22 starters, but there’s 80 guys on your team who aren’t starting, and even the guys who are starting aren’t getting enough sacks or catches or carries and they’re unhappy.”
