He made a lot of great plays throughout the game. Perhaps one of the biggest, yet overlooked, was his 3rd & long scramble for a first down on the very first series to avoid starting with a 3 & out.

We all know how important it is for this young KU team to start well, and this made sure KU maintained their drive.

I think JD has that “It” factor, and knows how to do the critical things to maintain drives and put the ball in the end zone.

I think we can all see glimpses of improvement with this team. I’ve been hoping for smart and disciplined football as a starting point and been disappointed year after year. Here’s some tangible stats to back up the style that we are implementing (NCAA ranking):

*48th in turnover margin
*11th in fewest lost fumbles
*10th in fewest penalties per game
*9th in fewest penalty yards per game
*28th in time of possession

that’s a hell of a starting point. We must continue to develop the offense and get some more defensive help. The glaring stats are last in 3rd down conversions allowed and second from last in red zone defensive efficiency. Just another stop or two per game could mean a lot. But love the disciplined football we are seeing!!
