Kansas will be fine

Kansas will be fine Because the things that burn them yesterday are things that can be fixed.

EFFORT!

That’s the number one thing I took away from yesterday. It had nothing to do with who got the ball last possession or who didn’t take enough shots. It came down to how we defended and how we went after loose balls. Dayton kicked our butt in this department. I thought we were that team against Michigan State.

FREE THROWS!

Kansas went a abysmal 9-20 from the FT line. That’s really bad. 2003 national championship bad. Talk about wasted opportunity. I think this team is better than the from the line. Especially Ochai.

Had both of these things been relatively normal, Kansas wins going away yesterday. Luckily, it’s not a personnel thing, IMHO. It’s about controlling the things you can control. I fully expect Kansas to come out with more energy and better concentration against Iona.

Finish It - Killacat (WARNING EXPLICIT LYRICS)

Senior Day/Die Hard Fans

Today is for those who have stuck this thing out through thick and thin. Those seniors who have been beaten to a pulp for 4,5,6 years with very little fan support. The seniors today have had 4 head coaches technically counting Jones and countless position coaches and coordinators (oh and a video coordinator calling plays🥴). These kids stuck it out but also as fans we have stuck this out. Lance has this thing going in the right direction and I know he preaches no moral victories, as fans today it’s likely we may end up disappointed but keep in mind what all these kids have gone through including a Covid year. With that being said, these kids deserve to win today and these die hard idiots that we are deserve a win today. Be loud and let’s beat the ever living piss out of them. Rock Chalk

QB - Just an observation

Did a quick glance over at both the Kansas State and Missouri boards. Talk about a crap ton of frustration and uncertainty pertaining to the QB position going forward for both programs. All the while, Kansas fans are probably feeling the most secure about the QB position for the first time since Todd God was under center.

Not sure Kansas necessarily needs a portal transfer QB. A ton of young guys behind Daniels. Ask me the same question four weeks ago and I would’ve probably told you a different answer. Daniels has completely changed the minds and the hearts of the Jayhawk faithful over the last couple weeks. Remarkable! Still you’re only as good as your back up QB.

So just be thankful the QB position seems to be in solid hands in Lawrence. Kind of feels nice watching our neighbors to the east and west bathing in their own sweat and tears over the position.

West Virginia - Quick Thoughts

They are 3-5 in the Big 12, but I think they are the best team out of these last 3 games on our schedule. They having beaten TCU and Texas already supports that. They played OU to 3 points in Norman. They took KSU to 4 quarters and had chances to beat them in Manhattan. This is not a bad team.

They are 1-4 on the road though, with their lone road win coming at TCU 5 weeks ago.

They average just 21 points per game in Big 12 play.

This is not a big play offense. They grind you down. I'm looking at two of their key wins:
  • TCU game: They had 230 yards rushing, 24 first downs, and possessed the ball for 35 mins.
  • Texas game: They had 28 first downs yesterday against UT! They gave Leddie Brown 33 carries, and he finished with 158 yards, but his longest run was just 26 yards. It was death by a 1,000 cuts for UT.
Defensively, WVU embraces a bend but don't break philosophy:
  • TCU had 400 yards of offense against them, but just 17 points. Went 4-12 on 3rd down, and 1-3 on 4th down. The WVU defense really bowes up in the redzone.
  • Texas had 350 yards of offense, but went 2-10 on 3rd down, and 0-2 on 4th down. Again, terrible redzone production for UT.

Keys for KU
  • Score early and force Neal Brown away from that running game
  • Never leave the redzone without any points, take field goals if necessary
  • On defense, sellout against the run. Point blank, KU won't stop this offense with a balanced defense. Make them throw it. KU's chances are much better in a shootout anyway.

Daves match-up vs Iona

Looks like Dave will be playing against a dude with similar size as him. A 6'9" 240 pound center played 34 minutes in last night's game. I hope that's a better match-up for him but in all honesty I don't know anything about the player. I was afraid he'd be matched up with another 6'8 215 pound forward that would torch him. Maybe this guy will too, but at least on paper it looks more favorable..
