Good stuff in the box score

Overall - very happy with the shot chart given it's the first game of the season and against a legit opponent.

More importantly - check out page 20 and the lineup combos. I thought Self managed this game much better than what we saw last year specifically when to use specific lineup combinations. Going to a small ball lineup midway through the second half is a great time to utilize this look especially if you have an advantage with depth and the pace of the game has already been at a high level. Michigan State was gassed at this point and it was evident by our 15-6 run over nearly 5 minutes of play. That is a killer.

I also liked putting a rested Dave back in the game with 3 minutes left in the first half. Rarely will teams utilize much of their bench at this juncture in the game, especially when they are losing, and what this creates is a great opportunity to play defense against a tired team, control the boards, and continue to push pace. I'm a strong advocate of going inside late in halves when teams are tired and/or battling foul trouble.

Overreaction from first game but it seems as if Self is much more comfortable with his current roster than what he's had the past few years.

Is it just me or........

does it seem like whenever a teammate or coach talks about Wilson they are slobbering all over how incredible he is at pushing the pace? Coach Self has done it, CB and OA have done it and now JCL mentioned it! Jalen could always handle the rock but he must be on another level after being told he needs to return to school, humility has a way of putting things in perspective and forcing you to work even harder! It seems to have worked on OA, and from the sounds of it it worked with Jalen as well! If this new found ability isnt just lip service and he really has improved that much we could be in for an AMAZING season!!! With OA doing his thing next level and possibly Jalen there will not be many teams that can handle us if/when Remy gets it going.

Iowa State looking good against #25 Xavier

ISU with a 14 pt lead in the second half against #25 Xavier. Have no idea how they will perform this year but I think Otzelberger will make them a tough team to deal with in the future. They are pesky defensively and this would be a good win for the Big 12 if they can hold on.

With defense and toughness being Otzelbergers philosophy we will see a totally different ISU than what we've seen in the past..

1/17 Attorney releases statement about De Sousa, asking for reinstatement.

If the NCAA is supposed to rule on these matters within 48 hours (I'm assuming weekends and holidays aren't included in this), then a decision should have been made by 1/22.

Assuming a favorable decision wasn't made - and an appeal was made soon after, they would have another 48 hours to respond...it would seem like that would be about today (1/25) or early next week (1/28). But these are just guesses. I don't know anything official. I'm not even sure my assumptions are correct.

Here's hoping he's going to be ruled eligible soon.

North Texas not to be taken lightly

Obviously they were in the NCAA tournament and beat Purdue last year. They also played at Arkansas a couple weeks ago and only lost by 8 points so they will be solid competition that we can't overlook. They only play 7-8 guys so not a lot of depth. They only have two players in their rotation that are 6'8" or taller so it will be a bunch of guards out there which is something that we can certainly manage. Right now their leading scorer is a 5'11" guy who comes in off the bench but plays starter minutes. Going to learn a lot about our team this Thanksgiving weekend.
