Implications of the coal industry decline.

I hadn't really given this much thought but as the coal industry declines it may be taking out a lot of the mineral extraction talent that is necessary for the success of a zero emissions economy. Lithium mining comes to mind. Universities, economic developers and politicians should at least take a look at this. No, I’m not advocating any attempted rescue of coal beyond ongoing efforts to split the C from the O2 in emissions. Any thoughts?

JCL

I was really encouraged by his ability to knock his shot down today. He can be such a valuable asset when Ochai or Braun need a break. I think we are starting to see the rotation get a little shorter. I think we are looking at the starters, Lightfoot, Wilson, and JCL. Yesufu needs to be in there, but I'm not sure he is quite yet. He didn't come into today's game until pretty late.

Recruiting Update Recruiting Update: Dec. 7 - 4:58 p.m.

4:58 p.m. Update: Some more updates from digging around this afternoon

The staff had a big showing at Hutchinson CC today. They took five coaches Leipold, Ianello, Kotelnicki, Fuchs, and Borland to meet with head coach Drew Dallas and Nadame Tucker and DeShon Singleton.

This is just what I gather, but it is going to be a dogfight with both of them. KU is right in the mix but it will be a challenge.

Leipold, Fuchs, and Kotelnicki went to see Isaiah Adams the OL from Garden City CC after that visit from what I can gather.

I still think they are tracking portal guys and there will be names that pop up. I also think this will be much of the story through late December and all of January and this is going to be fluid.

----------------------------
Quick update on visitors from the weekend... M.J. Griffin a transfer from Temple visited and had a great time and I think it is going to come down to KU and Louisville. He visits Louisville this weekend and that one does concern me.

As I reported earlier Hassan Hall has trips still set to Missouri and Purdue and it won't be until next week we hear anything.

Former Nebraska running back Sevion Morrison got an in home visit from Lance Leipold and Jon Wallace. Morrison could set up a visit to KU this weekend.

In a bit of a surprise Leipold did an in-home visit with Xavier Benson yesterday. I know Emmett Jones was pretty involved but so is Chris Simpson. Still no word if Benson will take an official to KU.

Jake Schoonover has been out looking for 2023 prospects and also getting a feeler on who to offer walk on spots to.

Jim Zebrowski is also out in different areas doing 2023 recruiting.

Who is the last KUFB player you think of when you see this?

I get it that #75 did not have his feet and body in better position but dang, it will be nice to see the attitude from #97 recreated by a KUFB player in the coming years.

Redshirts

I believe there is generally a Redshirt Tracker thread, but I am curious what players we know were able to redshirt and we expect to be impactful moving forward.

Do we think a guy like Hayden Hatcher will do much for example? He seems undersized to me and I would think he is more of a special teams type player.

I assume D’Marion Alexand was able to redshirt. As he puts on weight and gets more reps, I think he will be solid.

What other guys come to mind?
