Quick Thoughts Portal players will still enter from now to end of January

Talking to a lot of people they expect more players to enter after their bowl games.

Then there is expected to be another big number in mid to late January and here's why. There are a lot of players in the portal right now who are May grads.

So here is what the smart ones will do. They will go to their first day of class which locks them into aid and scholarship. So once they attend class they are taking care of on all financial fronts.

Then they can enter the portal and not have to attend any spring workouts and still get their stipends and scholarship.

Recruiting Update EXCHANGED A FEW TEXT MESSAGES WITH 2022 PG DESMOND CLAUDE

Yesterday, Desmond Claude, the 6-foot-5, 190-pound point guard from Putman Science Academy in Oakdale, Conn., took to Twitter to announce that he'd received a scholarship offer from Bill Self and Kansas. Currently, Claude, the No. 129 ranked player in the 2022 class, has received scholarship offers from the likes of Kansas, Boston College, Boston University, Bryant, Butler, California, Creighton, Kansas State, Louisville, Marquette, UMASS, Memphis, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Providence, Rhode Island, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Siena, Xavier, Illinois, South Carolina, Wisconsin, and others.

According to Claude, a three-star prospect, he's taken official visits to Louisville, Rutgers, Xavier, and South Carolina. He also took an unofficial visit to Boston College back in June. Currently, he has one official visit remaining and plenty of options to consider.

Just moments ago, I exchanged a few text messages with Desmond Claude and have the latest update on his recruitment.

"The zoom visit with Kansas went well," said Desmond Claude. "Coach Self says there is a good opportunity (at Kansas) and he wants a big PG. Everything was sounding good on the zoom call. The zoom call was with Coach Self and Coach Case. Coach Case and the coaching staff have seen me play, but Coach Self hasn't seen me play (in-person) yet. Coach Self has seen me on film a lot tho. I have one visit left and it's possible, very possible, that I visit Kansas."

Colts help Chiefs tonight, can Steelers help on Sunday?

10-4 KC with 3 games to go
9-4 Titans (play @Steelers Sunday)
9-5 NE after losing to Colts 27-17 Saturday (Taylor's 67 yard TD run with 2:01 left clinches game)

At stake:
Home field advantage throughout the playoffs PLUS
1st ROUND BYE for top team (EDIT: per below, went from top 2 byes to only top 1 last year)

Titans own the heads-to-head competition, so KC needs to win out and have someone (@Steelers, 49ers, @Dolphins and/or @Texans) beat Titans to break the potential tie and get the top seed.

So get out your Terrible Towels!
(Fake 'em if you ain't got 'em!)
GO STEELERS!

End of Year 2021: COVID-19 what we know (and some speculation)

Early 2020 we had a novel (new) virus the likes of which the human race has never seen before and thus, no antibodies, arrive in America and turn into a full blown pandemic across the globe (after originating in China).

Information was and recommendations were changing constantly as scientists, doctors, and epidemiologists were getting updated (and often conflicting) data by the literal minute.

Conservatives in general thought this was nothing, many still downplay it. POTUS tried to tweet it away as a hoax, said we'd be fine by Easter ("... ready and raring to go.."), Governors were smuggling in PPE in clandestine operations while POTUS was commandeering supplies to the highest bidder and his failure to do anything at all would cost him his re-election.

Sweden and others would try to achieve herd immunity and would give up after failing miserably.

There was hope that in the summer months as things warmed up that it would burn out and at worst just be seasonal like the Flu. It became clear pretty fast that was not going to be the case.

Dr Rand Paul (specialized in corneal implants and LASIK) said he'd never get infected again because he already got it, therefore he doesn't need to mask up (and he went around mask-less when he knew he was infected before anyone else did). We have since learned that people are getting infected again multiple times (different variants that mutated, or waning immunity in general, or both).

The biggest question was when would we get a vaccine and how effective would they be. Its absolutely amazing how safe and effective these are and how fast we got these rolled out. Sadly, this is America and many Americans are still confused about how vaccines work and fall for false propaganda planted by adversarial rival nation states intent upon dividing us (and it's been working like a charm!).

Over 800,000 Americans dead. Vaccines available to health care workers and the most vulnerable since January 2021. And today nearly all of COVID deaths are unvaccinated and the ones that were, majority of them had other health issues or abnormally long amounts of exposure.

No end in sight as the latest Omicron variant is spreading. The Browns and WFT are slated to barely field a team, I doubt we'll see the end of the basketball seasons, maybe even the NFL.

The hope is that Omicron is much more mild and burn itself out. Unfortunately, we have a limited sample size and people often make the mistake of assuming infections in one population across the globe in a completely different climate will translate 100% to another population elsewhere.

We still don't know if this could mutate to something milder or go much worse. There is a series of epidemics across the globe that are ebbing and flowing. My best educated guess is that for the next two to three years we'll have big breakouts and large number of cases but it won't be as bad as what we have now. Wearing masks on public transit and airlines will now be normal for those who choose to do it, even fifty years from now.

Ultimately the vaccine manufacturers will have more specialized vaccines that contain different variants or are just more effective in general and we'll likely be getting them at least yearly with the flu shots.

Off Topic Winter Olympics - How did I never see this?

I don't know the first thing about cross country skiing and probably wouldn't watch it if it were on, but ran across this on YouTube. Doesn't matter that it's cc skiing, it's Team USA in the Olympics and a call eerily reminiscent of the "LOOK AT MILLS! LOOK AT MILLS! call in '64. Sends chills down my spine.

Montana St QB

I am watching the FCS game between MSU and S Dakota St. Both good teams. MSU qb is a true freshman who is a terrific athlete, Mellott. Can run and throw and is tough as hell. Always surprises me how these small schools come up with these guys. Mellott has already rushed for 100 yards in the first half. SDSU qb is good also. There are good players everywhere and I am glad we are enlarging our recruiting area beyond TX, etc.
