Medicare for All

There are several things to keep in mind when discussing this. First of all, Medicare consists of doctors, hospitals, assisted living etc in the open marketplace. It applies rules, oversees, and regulates, but it is in the open competitive free market. Secondly, it's does have policy costs and options available, and it also has an option (advantage plans) for those who want to deal on a more local level. It is not "socialized medicine". Of course neither is the VA socialized since it is closed to those who served, and has certain qualifiers that for some can include income. Retirees and family member of retirees and under a separate system call Tri-Care. The real argument in this country is exactly how much of healthcare do you want the government control over individuals versus business, and just how high are you willing to have your taxes go. Keep in mind, with the exception of Israel, there is no free country whose defense budget comes close to what ours is, either in dollars or per centage.

Five 5 stars yet to sign

Browsing through the Rivals Top 250 CFB recruiting ratings and noted with some curiosity --

29 Rivals 5 star recruits listed
5 still undecided

Rather surprised that a 5 star HS player would not have made a decision in the early signing period.
Have to believe they essentially have their pick of programs to attend.
And I would think they would want to make their choice and then focus on finishing high school.
Maybe they are just enjoying being recruited?
Or maybe they just can't make up their minds?

Just bemused...
Here are the 5...

Code:
NAME YEAR POS RR HT WT HOMETOWN RANK SCHOOL
DENVER HARRIS 2022 DB 6.1 6'1" 185 Houston, TX 12
DOMANI JACKSON 2022 DB 6.1 6'1" 180 Santa Ana, CA 15
DEVON CAMPBELL 2022 OL 6.1 6'4" 310 Arlington, TX 16
HAROLD PERKINS 2022 LB 6.1 6'3" 200 Cypress, TX 23
JACOBY MATHEWS 2022 DB 6.1 6'2" 196 Ponchatoula, LA 28

According to Rivals only Perkins and Campbell have offers from KU, and only Perkins has any interest (medium) in KU (Perkins interest in KU is low)

I don't see KU getting any of these guys, but hey, it's fun to dream.

Iowa State class

Looking over where signees for other Big 12 programs came from. One team that caught my attention was Iowa State. There ability to recruit rather local and hardly any reliance on Texas wasn’t so much eye opening but showed how one can construct a roster without the need for Texas.

Felt KU has really tried to make Texas a second home. Also thought for a long while our need to run something similar to other southern Big 12 teams wasn’t really all that smart. Kansas hadn’t faired well on either front.

I think KU and ISU have some similarities. Mainly geography. I think of Kansas as a midwestern school. Logically we might be better off recruiting kids with midwestern roots who identify with Lawrence.

Anyways, here’s a nice tweet from Iowa State showing a map of where their signees came from. The success in KC for the Cyclones has to be curbed soon if you are Kansas.

You ready for this math???

This morning we had 76 scholarship players that still had eligibility left.
14 of our 2022 IC's were still available.
We can get back up to an additional 7 IC's if 7 players hit the portal.

76 + 14 - 7 + 7 = 90

So basically, the extra IC's are worthless to us until after 5 players leave.

Hawley, Kendrick & Fallin have already hit the portal.
Channel, Dineen, N. Williams & Gilbertson participated in Senior Night, but have not put their name in the Portal.
We signed 5 players and have 6 more verbally committed to play this season.

76 - 3 + 5 + 6 = 84

This means we only have room for 1 more.
If anyone else leaves we'd obviously be able to replace them.
If we wanted to max out on bringing in new talent, we'd need 9 more players to put their name in the portal. Then we'd get to sign the 3 uncommitted 2022 IC's we have left, plus the 7 replacement IC's we'd get for people leaving.

Whatever, I don't care. Thanks for listening.

The Athletic: Best CFP Personnel People

T-7. Scott Aligo, director of scouting, Kansas

Total survey points: 5
Started at Kansas: 2021

Aligo was named the director of scouting at Kansas (his alma mater) in June by first-year coach Lance Leipold. Aligo was an attractive candidate after his work in the transfer portal for Michigan State. The portal will be a major part of every school’s roster construction moving forward, and though Aligo is still relatively new to the personnel game, he already has a pretty impressive notch on his resume.

What Aligo’s peers are saying:

• “He’s on here because of the forethought and work he did to build the MSU roster with transfers. They were the early adopters to the portal and did the homework and found the right guys that fit the program.
