is to ultimately put his team in the best possible situation to win. That includes recruiting, developing, and motivating players to be the best they can be. As a head coach, you have to also make the tough decisions whose outcome will align with putting your team in the best possible situation to win.
After 5 games, I blame Jeff Grimes less and Lance Liepold more. I fail to believe that the level of performance at QB is that much of a drop off from what we are seeing right now from JD to what we would get from either Ballard or Marshall. It's time to make the switch. A bowl is still within reach, but not with JD behind Foster. Please, please, please make the switch. You might be worried about JD's confidence. F his confidence if it's that fragile. This is a man's sport that has consequences for performance (NIL money, starting position, etc...) but there also has to be consequences when a player doesn't perform.
I played team sports and when you allow one player to perform at a lower level and expectation than other players, you've set a new standard. Unfortunately you've set a new lower standard by allowing JD to continue playing. How can you expect superior play from the other 21 starters when your QB isn't performing at that level. You rotate out so many players, but you won't rotate out the single most important position on the field and arguably the one that is handcuffing your offense. The loyalty is cute, but put on your big boy pants and make the tough decision. It's not just us fans that are watching, but it's also your players.
