Jalons back is what broke this team imo

He just doesn't have the same throwing talent he once had. When he had the ability to make throws that required a certain zip, especially on the move, he played with so much passion, confidence and energy, which was infectious to the rest of the team.

The harsh realization that he no longer has the flexibility and arm talent to make those throws, hes understandably lost confidence. In fact, it's lowered the confidence of the whole team. We don't play with a chip or energy anymore, and it's a direct correlation of what's transpired with Jalon in my opinion. Yes, there are other things going on with Grimes, missed tackles, special teams, etc. but the biggest difference that I'm observing week to week is the lack of fire that once resonated from the QB position, and it's just not there this year..

Feel bad for the guy, but LL and the coaches get paid to make sure we are giving ourselves the best chance to win and I just think his physical and now mental health has him cooked. I hope Jalon can finish strong somehow but unfortunately in sports these things can happen.

After watching the game at Arrowhead yesterday with my Dad who played football at KU, he reminded me that most D1 players sacrifice long term health to some degree to play this sport. The 74 year old former KU center walked with the same limp he's had my whole life as a result of a back injury that derailed his career at KU and has impacted him for over 50 years. This fact has added to my hard feelings for what Jalon has dealt with. Hes a good kid who's had some tough breaks with health. I just don't think he's the same player he was before his health issues and it's creating a massive ripple effect throughout the team..

The craziest saddest thing

Is how I thought we had been through it all as a fanbase. Being so terrible for so long, with a few bright years mixed in with Mangino but especially from Gill to Les experiencing the lowest of lows a program can fall to, that after all of that, we are actually now experiencing the worst of it all. It actually somehow got worse.

This season is by far the worst thing I’ve experienced as a Jayhawk fan and I’ve been going to games since the 90’s.

There is just no way to describe how badly it hurts to have your first real true expectations and dreams for the program after thinking the worst was behind you for good come crashing down and look like a total idiot, your program look like a fraud, and your hope be totally dashed so fast.

Offseason Miscalculation

I will start with; no negative comments should go the way of the running backs. So, there is no excuse and it doesn't have to be what we witness on the field.
But overall this team did not look sharp from the beginning. It was not crisp on offense; and overall there appeared to be a lack of discipline and focus for all units.
You lose arguably the best OC and one of the best O-line coaches and you are likely to take a step back.
But we kept hearing about many players - we know what they can do, or their bodies have had quite a load, so we're cutting back on live reps or we let Jalon be Jalon etc.
Lance and staff made a mis-calculation on how to approach spring ball, the offseason and training camp.
As a result the team was not prepared to play football. Bad execution, lack of discipline and lack of physicality.
We are soft.

News and Notes Lance Leipold updates after TCU game

Leipold said he needs to watch film to see what Daniels did wrong.

Said something they will continue to work on.

Hoover was in a good rhythm and had chances to get him but couldn't get him down.

Both teams had one sack. The Big 12 is a small margin of error.

Leiopld basically said refs made bad calls and he said they can fine him today.

Leipold said the conference was at the game today because of questionable officiating.

He said they will find a way and the team is down. Said "we're not making it happen and it starts with the head coach."

Said defense got sloppy with tackling. Banged up in spots and missing some guys.

Several defensive players were out.

Big missed opportunity after OJ pick not getting a TD

Said it was a good atmosphere and fans were loud and created energy. Said don't give up on this team.

Said in year no moral victories and that still stands.

Taiwan Berryhill mom got married and he was on a plane at 4 am to get back and play.

game of angles lost on offense

I think it is due to many things:
  • shifts created by pre snap movement-nothing close to previous offenses this year
  • routes run poorly and designed poorly-Grimm is the only guy getting himself into space regularly
  • QB not moving pocket-JD6 has shown to be awesome and Bean clearly was moving
With it being more than just one thing, it's why this place is so damn pissy bc one person alone isn't responsible as a coach or player.

THE BLASTERS 2024 - The Battle of the Bays

The ShareWaves Foundation, in partnership with Sports Radio 810WHB and University of Kansas Head Coach Bill Self, is thrilled to once again present The Blasters: Battle of the Bays—their fifth annual youth-focused golf event on Sunday, October 13, at Topgolf, Overland Park. The Blasters isn't just an event; it's an opportunity for the Kansas City community to positively impact local youth by supporting The ShareWaves Foundation's mission. ShareWaves has worked to close the disparity gap in youth sports participation for over half a decade. Many children from disadvantaged backgrounds are deprived of the opportunities that well-resourced kids often take for granted. They invest in programs beyond mere participation—focusing on leveraging the power of sports to build better humans. They are committed to ensuring that every child, regardless of background, can access the life-enriching benefits of sports and physical activity. This mission is especially crucial as we confront the growing adolescent mental health crisis, which rising rates of anxiety, depression, and social isolation have exacerbated.

The Blasters: Battle of the Bays event will consist of a Blasters Kids Zone for more than 300 area kids, a "Celebrity Swing" VIP Pre-party hosted by Brian Hanni, the voice of the Kansas Jayhawks, the Battle of The Bays competition with live leaderboards, a silent auction, and, new this year, the 810WHB Fun Zone. To participate, go to THE BLASTERS WEBSITE.
We recognize the presence of a widespread youth sports crisis characterized by a prevalent "pay-for-play" and "win-at-all-costs" mindset. This approach consistently disappoints young individuals engaged in sports, pushing them away from the beneficial aspects of a positive sports experience. "Sports have the power to change lives, and by supporting organizations like ShareWaves, we can ensure that every kid has access to high-quality, impactful sports experiences," said Coach Bill Self, a champion for youth development. This event supports the work of ShareWaves, a registered 501(c)(3) public charity that provides children with high-quality sports experiences. Sports participation positively impacts children and adolescents' physical, mental, and emotional well-being. ShareWaves is driven to break down barriers preventing sports participation and promote holistic development for every child.

Today’s youth face overwhelming challenges that affect their physical, mental, and social well-being. The mental health crisis is marked by skyrocketing rates of anxiety and depression, a decline in physical activity, and educational disparities that further limit access to extracurricular opportunities like sports. A flawed and inequitable youth sports system—dominated by a "pay-for-play" and "win-at-all-costs" mentality—has systematically failed to support the development of young people, pushing many away from the positive benefits of sports.

According to the Aspen Institute's "State of Play Kansas City" report, only 20% of over 4,000 surveyed youth in the region receive the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity daily, below national (24%), Kansas (24%), and Missouri (26%) rates. Active children are twice as likely to report lower rates of depression and anxiety, underscoring the critical need for accessible sports programs.

In response, ShareWaves is committed to transforming youth sports by tackling the high costs of participation, early specialization, and widespread dropout rates. Their vision is to create a balanced and inclusive youth sports system where every child can thrive on and off the field and where participation leads to improved physical health, positive mental well-being, and life-enhancing skills.

Event Highlights Include:
  • Blasters Kids Zone: Engaging activities and professional golf lessons for over 300 children.
  • Celebrity Swing VIP Pre-Party: Hosted by Brian Hanni, the voice of the Kansas Jayhawks.
  • Battle of the Bays Competition: Featuring live leaderboards for an exciting, competitive atmosphere.
  • Silent Auction: Exclusive sports memorabilia and experiences to bid on.
  • 810WHB Power of Sports Lounge: New this year, providing additional entertainment and engagement opportunities.
The ShareWaves Foundation believes in the transformative power of sports to #buildbetterhumans. It is committed to removing barriers to sports participation to ensure every child can access high-quality sports experiences.
