KU has missed more than it has hit with portal recruits in the last two years. Bill Self said they have to do a better job evaluating players in the portal, and I'm curious what that will look like. Do they continue to go after the big names or do they do a better job recruiting to roster fit?
I look at some of the guys leading deep NCAA Tournament runs right now. Florida's Walter Clayton Jr. is a Iona transfer. Johni Broome came from Morehead State. Chaz Lanier from North Florida. Mark Sears started his career at Ohio, JT Toppin from New Mexico, etc. It might be worth it for Kansas to look at mid-major studs who fit what they want to do rather than just shelling out money to the biggest names.
