I mean, it's understandable that the republicans are in a constant state of chaos having to defend the indefensible. But instead of the dems "winning" all they're doing is watching their counterparts lose. If anyone on the left had any clue or anyone with an ounce of charisma or leadership ability they could be taking full advantage of the situation. If you take Trump and his cabinet out of the equation I have more confidence in the right wing at this point. Although I don't like that the healthcare bill has been done in secret and without any input from the left I do like that they're not just signing anything that's being thrown in front of them like Trump wants them to do. I don't think the ACA needs to be repealed and replaced...just improve it in areas than warrant the need for change.

The dems will get right on meaningless, symbolic votes for you because you asked

The Dems are rudderless and without effective leadership. Trump wins as long as this is the case. The Trump base is somewhere near a solid 35%. He is now arguably the least popular president ever at this point in his term but can hang on without effective Dem opposition and acquiescence by Republicans. The non Trump 65% are looking for a sane alternative that is missing from both Dems and real Republicans still willing to govern. It is no wonder that Independents are growing across nearly all demographics. The two party system is failing. What comes next remains to be seen but it could be wild and crazy in our politics before it settles down into a different pattern. Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Adams, et al must be spinning at the current spectacle.

I'm not sure what to make of the situation. On the one hand, the Ds have not had anyone stand up to seize the reins. The GOP made it their standard practice to villainize Obama at every step of the way and in the process they created a boogeyman that won them state and national offices. The Ds are much more ineffectual and I can't believe they haven't gone after Trump and the GOP more. This has been the worst start to a Presidential term anyone could have realistically dreamt up yet the GOP is still not buried.

That said, the second side to the argument is, 'never interrupt an opponent when they are making a mistake.' Trump and the GOP are going to great lengths to embarrass themselves. Why waste effort now when the election isn't until next year?

I think there's a wide gap between those two positions that the Ds are missing, but I can see the strategy of 'give the GOP rope and watch them hang themselves' then go hard after them in 2018. That said, I have no confidence in the Ds hitting hard in 2018.

Dems don't have a platform. "Look how much Trump sucks" isn't good enough, despite how awful he is.

"Look how much Obamacare sucks" has worked for the Republicans for 8 years....until they're actually put in power and expected to do something about it anyway. It may be enough to take the mid terms and maybe the WH in 3 1/2.
GOP never dreamed that they were going to win 2016.
