Instead of starting a slew of threads with new opinion pieces on KU, the trial, and possible violations, this thread can be used to post those artcles.

This article is from an University of Central Florida angle. UCF was investigated and then penalized for 5 years by the NCAA. UCF was talking to agents to help steer recruits to UCF, although none of the recruits being discussed ended up signing with UCF. A five year penalty out of that concerns me a lot, but agents are different than shoe company reps. That is the noticeable difference at the first reading of this article.https://www.orlandosentinel.com/spo...das-fbi-federal-trial-20181020-story,amp.html

“Is it a “blip” when Kansas’ Bill Self, another national championship-winning coach, is accused of having knowledge of illicit payments to then-recruit Silvio De Sousa, who is now a KU sophomore? A lawyer for one of the Adidas reps, James Gatto, told the jury that Self approved a $20,000 payment to the guardian of De Sousa.

The lawyer also produced text messages from Self to another former Adidas rep that, at the very least, show that Self OK’d the Adidas rep steering De Sousa to Kansas — an obvious and blatant violation of NCAA rules.

If you’ll recall a few years ago, UCF’s basketball program was investigated because head coach Donnie Jones and athletics director Keith Tribble knew of and had contact with two men — Ken Caldwell and Brandon Bender — who were apparently trying to steer basketball recruits to UCF. The sad part is that none of the recruits linked to Caldwell or Bender ever even enrolled at UCF.

Even so, UCF was hammered with five years of NCAA probation for recruits the Knights didn’t even sign.

If that’s the case, what would be the potential penalty for Kansas — and maybe even Duke — for recruits they did sign?”
