I made the trip to Lee's Summit West last Friday for the Jayhawks KC-area satellite camp. With about 60 players on hand, there were a few notable prospects from the metro that took part:
- 2016 Lee's Summit West DT Marcel Minniefield
- 2016 Lee's Summit West OL Boe Wilson
- 2017 Ray-Pec DE Anthony Payne
- 2017 Winnetonka CB Djimon Colbert
Two of the most interesting prospects in camp made the trip from Burlington (IA) Notre Dame. 2016 ATH Xavior Williams and 2017 RB Isaiah Trousil were two of the fastest players on the field at LSW, as Williams clocked a 4.53 and Trousil a 4.58 at Friday's camp.

Williams beat coverage several times during 1-on-1s, drawing praise from the Kansas staff. Heading into his senior year with the Falcons, he's drawing interest from Iowa, Iowa State, UNI, Missou, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, and Western Illinois. He admitted he wasn't well-versed on KU, but he liked what he saw of David Beaty's staff.
"I don’t know much of anything about Kansas Football," Williams said of the Jayhawks. "But I liked it. I liked the coaches here. I like them. They are nice. It feels like they want to win, the guy wants to turn the program around and start winning."
A multi-sport athlete, Williams said he wasn't sure he could fit a visit to Lawrence into his schedule this summer, though he would like to see the campus.
"I have to work it with baseball," he said of a possible trip to Mount Oread. "I’m in everything. I’m already missing a tournament. If I can, I’ll try. The city is nice, from what I know. It’s nice, seems good."
Just a few weeks after the sophomore set a new Iowa record with a 21.76 in the 200 meters, Trousil showed why he is one of the fastest players in the state. Working with running backs coach Reggie Mitchell, he showed he could be a weapon out of the backfield in the passing game.
"I felt like I did pretty decent," Trousil said of his day. "I had one play where I dropped a wide-open ball. I made all the catches except one. I was pretty successful."
Listed at 5-foot-11, 175-pounds, Trousil is a bit narrow through the shoulders, but he appears to have the kind of frame to add weight over the next few years. Coming off a strong performance at Wisconsin's camp, he holds offers from Illinois State and Northern Iowa, and is drawing interest from Iowa State, Missouri, North Dakota State, and South Dakota State.
"I really want to play running back in college," the speedy underclassman said. "But I need to get bigger, obviously. I still have a few years to do that, being a junior. I’ve got a while."
Like his Notre Dame teammate, Trousil was impressed with the Kansas staff.
"I really liked the coaches here," he said of the Jayhawks. "They seem really fun, hyped-up, and they really want to win. It seems like a nice place to be, with awesome coaches. I really like them."
