This team collapsed twice in each game in the last two losses: At the end of regulation and the end of OT against Houston, and the 21 and 10 point leads against Baylor. KU was really, really good for stretches in each game, but collapsed 4 times. I don't know why. We can focus on the usual x and o questions--perimeter shooting, etc. But to me the real issue is mental. They needed to come out the second half and stomp on Baylor's throat, but instead came out soft like the game was won. We lack--well, call it killer instinct, the ability to close out games, some strand of winning DNA, a lack of leadership. Call it what you want but to me that is the pressing issue. I think, individually, these are winning players. But somehow the team instinct is not near what it should be. We are Janus faced: Mr. Choke comes out and overrules Dr. Jekyll.
