There has been debates about whether the B1G would take a non AAU team. Recent reports from multiple sources say the B1G will not accept teams in expansion that are not AAU. The list of schools available is pretty short if that is the case.

The fact that B1G people are stating they will only accept AAU is good for KU on multiple levels. One, we are AAU. But, possibly just as important, if they are saying expansion candidates must be AAU, that means they may at least be considering expansion. Below are the current P5 AAU teams outside the B1G.

PAC Schools
UW
OU
Cal
Stanford
UCLA
USC
UA
Utah
CU

ACC Schools
Pitt
Duke
UNC
Virginia
G Tech

SEC Schools
UF
aTm
Vandy
MU

Big XII Schools
KU
ISU
UT

It has also been stated that schools for expansion should be connected to the existing footprint. So, KU, bordering NE would quality, ISU in Iowa qualifies, but aTm in Texas is not adjacent and would not meet this requirement.

KU touches NE
ISU in IA
CU touches NE
MU touches IA
Pitt is in PA
Virginia touches MD

Those are the only six that meet both criteria. I question MU leaves SEC. It sounds like the ACC GOR is pretty restrictive.

Short of the the B1G doing a wholesale merger with the ACC or PAC, it looks like the candidates are likely KU, ISU, and CU if they expand any time soon.

We may have to add additional sports to meet requirements, but that can be negotiated. We can establish a wrestling team, etc. in a couple years.
