Perception is reality so don’t kill the messenger. Trump tried to lock up the southern border with cruel words and actions. President Biden correctly reversed many of those policies. What Biden didn't do was anticipate a public reaction - not just Republicans - that he has capitulated to his left wing base and opened the border to all comers with little or no measured process for making sure that would be immigrants don’t assume that they can cross the Rio Grande and stay here. Yes, I know that isn’t the case - but perception has become reality. And Republicans are gonna ride that horse into the 2022 election cycle. Most Americans are fair minded about immigration - up to a point. One example - a majority in poll after poll support a path to citizenship for the 11 million Dreamers. But, there is an undercurrent of concern over open borders. Don’t kill the messenger but the Biden Administration has screwed itself into a no win corner.
