Just got back to my hotel and I finished editing the video and wanted to share a few thoughts.
-- First, after Show Me Squad (MU) defeated Vegas Rebellion in the first game, Isiaih Mosley walked past halfcourt and stared down a few Kansas guys waiting for the game to end in the tunnel. I know it has nothing to do with the game on Saturday, but I wonder if he remembers what happened the past two times Kansas and Missouri have met on the hardwood. Again, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter, but I wouldn't be in a rush to piss off a bunch of guys that played for a program that has had a great deal of success against the program you're representing.
-- No doubt that Mass Street is gonna need to get healthy in the next couple of days if they want to make a serious run in the TBT. On Wednesday night, I saw Tyshwan Taylor, Dedric Lawson, and Mario Chalmers on the bench. After the game, Marcus Morris said he hoped to have a few guys back on Saturday, but wouldn't give anything real specific. Kansas, without question, could have used Taylor and Lawson for sure on Wednesday night.
-- Another thing Marcus Morris mentioned on Wednesday night was the turnovers. Mass Street committed 22 turnovers, while We Are D3 turned the ball over just 11 times. Additionally, Mass Street was just 4-of-14 from behind the arc, while We Are D3 hit 8-of-29 threes.
-- For those that watched the game on ESPN+ or those that attended, Thomas Robinson was a stud for Mass Street. Before the game, I had a guy tell me that, after watching practice and just watching Robinson, he felt T-Rob was going to explode for 40 points tonight. Well, in all, he scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down 15 rebounds. Yes, he also led the way with six turnovers, but Mass Street doesn't win this game without Robinson. He was a force down low in the paint and was a monster on the glass.
-- I didn't want to say anything during the game, but I thought the officials did a horrible job on Wednesday night. I can tell you, after having several conversations with people, I'm not the only one that felt that way. Robinson and some other guys got pounded down low on the offensive end and nothing was called. At one point, you had a few defenders diving at the legs of Keith Langford and nothing was called. The one guy that kept hitting all of the threes, Adam Fravert, got face-to-face with a player from Mass Street after drilling a three in the first half and was way out of line. Let the guys play and let the guys have fun, but as refs, do your jobs.
-- A few props to Mario Little (17) and Keith Langford (15), who, along with Thomas Robinson, scored in double-figures for Mass Street. Little hit a big-time jumper late in the game that pulled Mass Street to within two points of We Are D3. With 5:33 left on the clock, Langford hit a jumper that pulled Mass Street to within two points of We Are D3. After the game, Langford, near the end of the press conference, asked for a few minutes to speak, because he wasn't sure if he'd have the opportunity to do it again (depending on the game on Saturday). He made sure to thank the fans and the coaching staff and his teammates on Mass Street. He talked about how great the process has been and how great it has been lancing up his laces for the final time.
-- I'll have more tomorrow and throughout the week.
