Here's a brief look at where the QB situations stand for the Big 12 teams at the current time for 2025: Team in bold type is an opponent for next year. Shall be fun to follow along.
Arizona: Noah Fifita, the starter, will be a redshirt junior next season. Expectations were high for him this year, but he didn't match them. His numbers were pretty similar, except that he had fewer TD passes and more INTs. Assume he will continue to be the guy next year at this point in time. Only Adam Damante, a transfer from Northern Arizona has any experience of the other returning QBs, throwing for 1100 yds a 6 TDs as a freshman at NAU. They have signed one QB for next year: Luke Haugo, a 3 star 5.6 rated kid from Gilbert AZ.
Arizona St: starter Sam Leavitt will be a redshirt Sophomore next season. Had pretty good numbers for a freshman this season:62% completion, 2400 yds passing, 21 TD, 5 INT and ran for 350 yds and 4 more TDs. He looks to be the man for awhile. They have Jeff Sims on roster, after he transferred from Nebraska to Georgia Tech to ASU. Not sure what they will do there or if he will stick around. He's listed as a SR; not sure if he has an additional year or not. Pretty sure they lose Trenton Bourget, who played a lot in 2023. They signed Michael Tollefson, a 3 star 5.6 rated dual threat QB from Tustin CA. He had a very good offer list.
Baylor: Sawyer Robertson should be back as a redshirt SR next season. Can't imagine anyone else will be challenging him. Not sure what happens with Dequan Finn who started the season and got hurt, allowing Sawyer the opportunity. He's listed as a redshirt SR so either gone or if he gets a medical redshirt, might he leave the program for another opportunity? No other experience on the roster. They signed one for next year: Edward Griffin, a 3 star guy out of Coppell TX.
BYU: Should be set for 2025 with Jake Retzlaff as a redshirt SR. They will lose Gerry Bohanon who had a lot of experience prior playing at USF and started at Baylor before that. Treyson Bourget might be the backup, he played a lot at Western Michigan before transferring and will be a redshirt JR. They have one QB for 2025: Nolan Keeney, a 3 star, 5.5 rated guy from Tualatin, OR.
Cincinnati: Brendan Sorsby will be back after a nice seaon. He will be a redshirt JR next year. Completed 64% of passes, 2800 yds, 18 TD vs 7 INT and ran for 450 yds with another 9 TD. Bearcats look to be in good shape. Backups have a combined 5 throws this season. Better hope he doesn't get hurt! I don't see any signed commitments to their recruiting class at the moment.
Colorado: Obviously, losing Shadeur Sanders will hurt the Buffs for next year. What direction will they go? Destin Wade will be JR. He transferred from Kentucky and started in their bowl game last year. 4 star recruit. Most likely from the current roster, I think. Also have Walter Taylor III, a 3 star recruit who played a tiny bit at Vandy before transferring. Or will they go with their 5 star commit Julian "JuJu" Lewis who decommited from USC before signing day out of Carrollton GA. Or will it be a short term rental from the portal? Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Houston: I'm assuming Donovan Smith is gone, which leaves Zeon Chriss at the front. He will be a JR next year. They have a couple 3 stars that were FR this year. Bar seems pretty low to beat out Zeon, I think. They have Austin Carlisle, a 3 star 5.6 rated signee from Missouri City TX. Chose Houston over mostly non-power 4 schools. Might they look to the portal?
Iowa St: 2025 should be the Rocco Becht show. He will be a redshirt JR. Honestly, I'm not sure who the backup was and if he played any snaps. They signed one in this class: Alex Manske, who's a 5.7 3 star dual threat, from Angona IA. Had a pretty good offer list.
Kansas: I think we know our own situation here.
KSU: Avery Johnson will be JR in 2025. Should be his show. I think Ta'Quan Roberson was the backup but I think he graduated. Only other QB with official snaps this season was Jacob Knuth who will be a JR. They signed 5.6 3-star pro-style QB Dillon Duff out of St Louis MO DeSmet. Had a decent offer list.
OSU: There's will be interesting to see what happens. Alan Bowman I think will be gone after 8 years of eligibility. None of the other QBs performed particularly well when given a chance. It looks like Maealiuaki Smith who started the last couple games probably has the edge going into the offseason. He's a true freshman who only played in 4 games so he would be a redshirt FR for next year. They did not sign anyone on signing day. Perhaps they will look to the portal for a one year rental QB?
TCU: Josh Hoover will be a JR in 2025. I think Hass Hejny, a 4 star recruit last year out of Aledo TX is the heir apparent. Only played in 4 games so will be redshirt FR next year. Took 31 commitments! but only one QB signed: Adam Schobel. he is a 5.8 4 star rated pro-style QB from Columbus TX. He was 17th at his position and #39 in the state. Looks to be a good one.
Texas Tech: Behren Morton will be back as a SR. Will Hammond looked good as a backup I presume he kept his redshirt and will be a redshirt FR next year. 4 star recruit from Austin. Think he's the heir apparent. They signed one in this class: 5.7 3 star dual threat Lloyd Jones III from Hitchcock TX. Rated 65th in the state and 11th at his position. Looks to be a good one also.
UCF: This will be one of the most interesting to see what happens. new coach. used several QBs last year. KJ Jefferson didn't work out and I think would be gone. Two others who played and assume front runner status for now if they stay would be Jacurri Brown (will be a redshirt JR) who is a dynamic runner and Dylan Rizk (will be a redshirt SO) who is a better passer. Both played a lot of snaps. They did not have a signee. If they aren't happy with those options, maybe they go portal with the new staff?
Utah: Some uncertainty here. New OC just hired is Beck from New Mexico. Does Cam Rising retain eligibility and come back? If not, Brandon Rose saw action in 3 games before suffering a season ending injury. He will be a JR. Isaac Wilson I think would be the front runner if not Rising. Played in 8-9 games and will be a SO next year. Utah signed 2 QBs this year: Jamarian Ficklin, a 5.5 3 star from Muskogee OK with no other P4 offers and Wyatt Becker, a 5.7 3 star from Chatsworth CA. Good offer list and #49 in state and #30 at pro-style position.
West Virginia: I think Garrett Greene is out of eligibility so the heir apparent would be Nicco Marchiol who will be redshirt JR. He started when Greene was hurt. If he stays. New coach so shall be interesting to see what happens. Signed one QB: Scotty Fox, a 5.8 4 star kid out of Mentor OH. Listed as a dual threat, he was ranked #8 at the positon and #13 for Ohio. Had a nice offer list.
