I think the problem with college basketball---as illustrated last night--- is that the defense has been greatly hampered by the rule that went into effect a couple of years ago preventing the defensive man from having any contact with the driver---in many cases even if the driver instigates the contact. This rule makes it very difficult to contain the driver and and results in players simply driving at will (i.e. last night) The rule greatly favors the offense and results in a boring free throw contest (i.e.last night). In my opinion the only way to deal with this rule is to have a great rim protector. They are hard to find, and obviously KU has no rim protector this year.
On another somewhat related point, I note that on many occasions last night KU played behind the K-State post man. This made it simple to get the ball inside, and made for easy scores (many within three feet). Why not front the post, thus forcing the offense execute a perfect pass inside?
