Hey all,

As you know, Matthew Hurt, the 6-foot-9, 200-pound forward from John Marshall High School in Rochester, Minn., is scheduled to officially visit Kansas this weekend. It’s safe to say that this weekend gets no bigger for the Kansas coaching staff when it comes to recruiting.

For the next 48-hours, Bill Self and his staff will host Hurt, the No. 7 ranked player in the 2019 class, for what is believed to be his final official visit.

In all, Hurt, the No. 2 ranked power forward in the 2019 class, has officially visited Kentucky (12/1/18), North Carolina (12/15/18), Duke (1/19/19) and Kansas (2/2/1). If things play out as expected with Hurt, this weekend will be his final official visit before reaching a final decision.

When that decision will be made, however, is still an unknown at this time. I’m not sure if Hurt will pull the trigger and commit shortly after his visit or if he’ll take his time and process all of the information from each school and then reach a final decision.

What I do know, or at least believe, is that Kansas is the frontrunner for Hurt heading into what I’m guessing is his final official visit. Listen, there isn’t a staff in American that has invested as much time recruiting Hurt as Kansas.

Bill Self and his staff made it clear from the very beginning that Hurt was a top priority for Kansas and that never changed. They followed his every move this spring and summer, have made many trips to Minnesota to check in on the five-star prospect and have had him on campus on a number of occasions.

When his official visit to Kansas is complete, Self and his staff will have done everything possible to sell the University of Kansas men’s basketball program to Hurt and his family. Seriously, there isn’t anything else the staff, by the end of the weekend, could have done to convince Hurt that he is the No. 1 priority in the 2019 class for Kansas.

The fact that Self coached Hurt during USA basketball is only going to help KU’s chances. Obviously, Hurt and Self have spent time together on the court with USA basketball, but I know that Matthew is looking forward to see how Self interactions with his players and coaching staff during the game on Saturday.

Hurt will be paying close attention to Self and how he operates during a game. That’s one of the big reasons why he wanted to visit Kansas during the season. He could have easily visited during the weekend of Late Night in the Phog, but being that he’s been to Late Night in the past, he wanted to come for a game.

Nobody knows for sure what is going to happen, but I firmly believe that, when all is said and done, Matthew Hurt will sign with Kansas during the late signing period. Kansas has long been viewed as the team to beat, and I just don’t see that changing at this point.
