After reading ESU's post on the condition of the roster, it reminds me of the positive vibes everyone had when Zenger was deciding between Bowen and Beaty for the job. Most thought either would do a good job but many were really fervent in their support of each of them.
After Beaty was hired and made a couple of nice speeches, many of us began to really foam at the mouth over this choice for our HC. We began to speculate how his recruiting skills combined with his enthusiasm and the great staff he assembled would quickly restore us to a credible status in the FB world. Now this was just emotion with no real evidence but we quickly became believers.
The greatest hurdle he had to overcome was the roster itself. Heavy graduation of both experience and talented players left the cupboard nearly bare. He has relatively quickly stepped up his game and repaired a lot of the damage. Certainly as much o more than anyone could expect.
The point of this post is to question whether we have a reasonable right to expect a similar performance on the field this year by using his performance in rebuilding the roster as an indicator of how his organizational skills will translate into production by these players.
I believed in Beaty but never thought he could do what he has done with the roster this quickly. Can he also work some of the same magic on the field of play? I will not say no until I see it for myself.
