and doing the peoples business. What could be the magic elixer that would get our government back to doing the peoples business. Strictly speaking, and just my opinion, is why is congress so dysfuntional today? IMO it can be traced back to when States started abdicating their resposibilites to the Federal Governement. Again IMO if we went back to a time when such things as education and welfare among other things were in the hands of the states then much of the largesse of being a career politician beholding to and kept in place by lobbyist would wane. Imagine if whatever our individual tax obligations were flipped and the state got what we sent to the fed and vice versa. Congress would just be tasked with the truly national things. Our tax dollars would be kept closer to home. A big example is education. Why and how did college get so expensive? When the federal government got involved. The same can be said about healthcare. Once big government gets involved prices always shoot up. They set the bars and they get paid highly for it. Today people scream free healthcare and college. Why not affordable healthcare and affordable college? Because the federal government has surplanted state governments as the papa in our everyday lives. Why do you think we have blue states and red states. When the states abdicated control to Washington those states started becoming the rust belt. That demise started in the 70's. Go figure it for yourselves. We have to start somewhere. I love our form of government. We have so many options other countries don't have. And every other country lives under either our umbrella of defense, or under Russia's or under China's. Figure hwo mcu "free stuff" those citizens would have if we slashed our defense budget in half. An we could protect ourselves on that, but not the others that suck on our teet.
