Scientists are trying to figure out the mass of the galaxy and dark matter's contribution. The numbers are so great, there really isn't anyway a human mind can truly comprehend. For small perspective, the earth is 1/330,000th the size of the sun. Our sun, is only one out of 100B suns in our galaxy (not universe, galaxy). All those suns only come out to about 4% of the mass of the galaxy, with 3 times that much as just floating gas. The remaining 84% of that is dark matter.

When talking about the universe, our galaxy is only one of an estimated 200 billion.
