In every sport, there comes a time when the leadership (coaches) must make decisions on their personnel. Coach Self (along with assistants) are stuck. They love their players but are not recognizing their lack of performing at the level necessary to win. Harris won a national championship his freshman year. His lack of effective shooting contribution was masked over by Ochai and Braun. And then it was Gradey. And then it was Furphy. This season, only Hunter and Mayo are more consistent. That's only 40% of the starters that consistently contribute offensively and 60% that don't. We're at the point this season of just hoping a fire lights under the other players to provide the spark. But it's raining and the match won't stay lit. Time to take the blinders off. Every veteran team gets to this point when the emotional loyalty obscures the big picture. We're there this season and hopefully not moving forward to future seasons.
