Ignoring how this will effect D chances of winning 2020 elections for a second, how do people think this might impact the D primary?
I see three potential options:
You see Biden's numbers continue to drop. Despite the fact there is no indication of wrong doing by the Bidens, the press around this is negative enough it could effect him all the same;
There is no impact on Biden. The public sees it as a Trump issue and doesn't effect Biden.
You see Biden's numbers rise. Biden uses this as a launching pad to hit Trump hard and to invigorate his lagging campaign. This will give Biden a ton of free air time to hit Trump, and say things like, "Trump is going after me because he's scared. He knows I would beat him in 2020."
Personally, I think this is a combination of 1 and 2. I think it will minimally, but measurably, drag down Biden (maybe a point or two, tops). I think people will see his name being brought up constantly around the scandal and there will be a seeping of negativity around his name, even though many will realize it's at this time all BS. I also think people will see him as a return to 'politics as usual'.
