This is just a hypothetical worth discussing as it's a prominent talking point amongst conservatives. What becomes of the party if and when the establishment undermines Trumps nomination? You can almost go ahead and say Ted Cruz is in the same boat.
Now I think there's a way the establishment compromises on Cruz but for this hypothetical let's say the establishment goes with a Rubio, Kasich, or even a Romney. How soon after the general election in which Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders is the victor do we see a splitting of the GOP? How much does either side rearrange their pool of voters?
In the short term neither side appears to be able to contend with the Democrats in a presidential election but maybe in some of the smaller state and local races that could be different.
So how does the establishment rework their party and would it still be the Republican Party? Now how does a portion of the Tea Party, mainly the evangelicals and outsiders, who don't feel like they belong to the big money establishment develop their identity? Inquiring minds want to know and remember this is just a hypothetical.
