I would really like our coaches to examine the last 2 years closely and enter next season with a better plan. This could be Selfs last chance to make a run at a final four before he hangs it up, and if he carefully constructs a team around Peterson and Flory, he could very well do that. Peterson appears to be the real deal, and I'm going to assume he honors his commitment to KU.
One thing that I like about next year's team is the fact that we will have some guys with some experience in our system to help build around Peterson. McDowell and Jackson are two guys who will be in their 3rd year at KU after redshirting this year and it sounds like the staff really thinks they are turning into "Bill Self" type of guards who are versatile, tough, have good size/athleticism and take pride in defense!
We will also likely bring back some others with experience in our system but it remains to be seen who. Coit will probably be one of them and I really like him as a backup guard who plays pretty consistently and you don't have to worry about whether he plays 2 minutes or 20 minutes, he will give it his best. Have no idea if Noah Shelby can help but he can really shoot the ball apparently and he will have been here for a year already as a redshirt. Tiller being on the team this semester can really help him get off to a good start next season despite not being able to practice much yet.
Ideally, we are only needing to incorporate 2-3 transfers portal guys into the top 8 for next season. Undoubtedly, we will need a couple of guys in the portal that are the right fit, but I don't think we're going to be relying on 5 transfers to be a part of our rotation again for next season.
Picturing the roster for next season is hard to predict without knowing who will leave, but we know there several guys who are exhausting eligibility, and we know that Storr and Griffen are most likely gone. With that in mind, here's a guess as to what the roster may end up being like, and also what I'm kind of hoping for..
C: Bidunga
F: Transfer (guy who can shoot and rebound)
G: Transfer (combo guard who fits in a 3 guard lineup)
G: Jackson
G: Peterson

I think we need a 4 man who's more like a wing who can be a consistent shooter, and isn't afraid to rebound the damn ball. We also need a guard who can play next to Peterson and I put Elmarko as the 3rd guard but it can be anybody. I would like for us to start 3 guards because thats how you win in March. We should be able to find that in the portal, and hopefully we don't have to build our team with portal players next year..
