We might have our first position battle that could shake-up the original thoughts on what the two-deep might look like.

I believe that Austin Booker is putting together a solid fall camp and has started to make a move at the defensive end position. The defensive end transfer from Minnesota from things I hear has been coming on and playing well. He has been described to me as a player who has good athleticism but more importantly has a good understanding of how to play defensive end.

I have heard he has very good instincts and is a tactician. He has good football intelligence and has caught on quick after being on campus in fall camp.

Hayden Hatcher has been battling through some bumps and bruises and Booker has been stepping up his game. I think this could end up being a neck-and-neck race to the Missouri State game who will start. Either way, providing they are both healthy, both will get a lot of snaps in week one.

I don’t look at this as bad news. Hatcher has had some down time and a player is stepping up at a position of need. I have also heard Patrick Joyner is showing some good signs after missing a lot of spring football. But Booker is the one making a move.

I reported this morning that Jalon Daniels was not at practice, but don’t read into that. I believe he is coming up after the early session when the media has left practice. There has not been a lot of info but I don’t get the feel people are concerned.

I also have another name to watch Trevor Wilson. Heard over the last week he has one of better weeks of practice and that would be welcoming news because he is easily one of the better open field threats on the roster.

Practice moved indoors this morning with the rain and storms. But I liked the energy from everyone with the change of scenery.

One thing I have been focused on is who makes the travelling squad for Nevada. I remembered the travel rules for the Big 12 don’t apply until they play a conference game. They can take some extra guys and reward them even if they have their 70 in mind.

I did hear a piece if info that might be some of the best news for the hardcore follower of KU football… Was told Damon Greaves is a legit talent. He comes from that Pro Kick in Australia that produces a lot of college level punters.

One other piece of info on the special teams is how much help there is from the staff. Hearing Sean Snyder, Miller and Burton have all had a big hand in organizing special teams. Now, they can’t technically coach but they can do a lot and it shows.
