I just had a chance to speak with Todd Bradford on the phone and let me tell you he is an impressive guy.

Instead of writing a story I wanted to post this on the board because it is better being told among you all instead of putting it in a story format.

Bradford's mother recently just passed away with a rare form of cancer she had battled for quite some time. Beaty called Bradford on Saturday and his mother passed away on Sunday.

He said he is an only child so he stayed back to care for his mother and help his father. During his time off coaching he helped a friend get started in the oil business and they took a company with $0 and took it to $65 million.

He got to know Beaty because he used to recruit Irving MacArthur where Beaty coached. Bradford signed a LB from Beaty's school named Justin Gent who was a solid player for at Oklahoma State. Beaty called and asked him if he was interested in getting back into coaching. With all of the timing surrounding his mother he decided that's what he wanted to do.

"It was the right thing to do," Bradford said. "I'm blessed he gave me the chance."

Bradford said he is excited to get back into coaching. We talked about when he was the DC at Southern Miss and he remembers the close game they played against KU in 2009. He remembered the game being close and KU completed a big third down pass when they felt their LB got crack-backed blocked and they were screaming about it.

He also remembered his final year at 2007 at Oklahoma State when KU beat then in Stillwater. We also talked about the 2006 game where Bowman tore KU up.

He said he thinks highly of KU's program because when he was at Oklahoma State they went head-to-head a lot with the Jayhawks in recruiting.

Bradford said his main areas of recruiting have been Texas from the past. But I can tell from his personality and knowledge you could put him anywhere. He will be fine.

He said getting back into coaching is the right thing at this time and his dad will follow him to Lawrence. I thought this was a good story to tell and wanted to share it with everyone.
