A new book about slavery and economics and the building of the U. S. economy is getting lots of publicity. The book is The Half Has Never Been Told: Slavery and the Making of American
Capitalism by Edward Baptist. It's generating a lot of interest for a Civil War history and is on the New York Times bestseller list, thanks in part to controversy generated by an Economist review.
The anonymous Economist reviewer revealed views which would probably be acceptable to many in this forum.
