Lets have a realistic discussion about the current state and attraction of KU basketball. In other threads some of you have asserted that KU is king and any coach would leave their school for a KU coaching opportunity and all players would dream of playing at KU.
However we are in a different era. The SEC has demonstrated that NIL is the key. IMO, a blueblood brand is no longer the primary factor. I think the hot coaches are now seeking that they can still make millions at a 2nd tier but P5 (eg Wisconsin, Auburn, Marquette, Tennessee, Michigan etc) school and do well as long as you have NIL funds but without the pressure.
The issue with Self is that he no longer has the time to develop players into HIS players. With the influence of NIL its not just the threat of your 1-2 McDonalds All American being a one and done and you build your team around him. Nowadays every player is essentially a one and done.
