I honestly don't think I know my fellow Americans anymore. The internet is crawling with Americans more than happy to kick out the Syrians coming to this country. They are willing to deny the liberty we enjoy everyday to these refugees on the complete and totally unfounded idea that there a couple terrorists in the group. I am honestly disgusted here.
First, this country was built as a haven for the oppressed. Everyone was welcome here if you were oppressed at home. Fast forward to today and the children of those oppressed masses want to deny that liberty to others on the complete off chance that there might be a terrorist in there.
Second, our borders are completely wide open to any criminal yahoo that wants to come here. Any terrorist that wants to come here merely has to drive up to the border and walk across. But yes, we're protecting ourselves from the terrorists by keeping out these Syrians.
Third, where has our leadership gone? Ever since Obama got here, it's like we all want to isolate our country and not allow anyone in or out. This is a global community and we cannot shut ourselves out like that. One of the byproducts of liberty and the system of freedoms that we enjoy is that we are open to attacks that by definition are protected by those same freedoms until they happen. For us to cower because we're scared someone might attack us does not befit who we used to be and I would say who we want to be. If we want to continue to be the global superpower and lead other countries instead of being lead, then there's a certain amount of bravery required to do that. In other words, we need to grow a set of balls to continue in this position. If you don't want to be the global superpower but want to cower in the corner and hope no one attacks you, then I don't want to know you and you should move IMO.
