To me you need to at least play to no worse than one level below where you should've gotten by your seed.....i.e., so in our case that would've meant getting to the Sweet 16 this season.
Despite people railing against the Big XII most of the teams in the conference did this.
By seeds, UT & OSU should have lost in the Rd. of 64 & did.
By seed West Virginia shoudl've lost in the Rd. of 32 and instead made it to the Sweet 16 (I think they were the ONLY team in the conference that was able to surpass their seed......of course, then they proceed to get embarrassed in the 39 pt. loss).
By seed, OU made it as far as they should have (to the Sweet 16.) - as a 3.
Baylor & ISU lost 2 rounds earlier than they should have based on their seeds.....lost in Rd. of 64, whereas by seed they would've made the Sweet 16. KU did the same - losing 2 rounds earlier than they should have based on their seed.
So 4 out of 7 met their seed or surpassed it (UT, OSU, OU & WVU).
Whereas 3 went out 2 rounds earlier than their seed said they should have (ISU, BU & KU).
