The old pol in me has come to these thoughts in the aftermath of the outrageous Tweets coming from the individual at the top of the White House. They are designed to, and follow, his 2016 campaign strategy of fanning rage in his base. Moderate voters who moved away from him in 2018 are a key to 2020. He is counting on them to ignore his behavior and support him in large enough numbers as they did in 2016. It was easier then because the Democrats had possibly the worst candidate for POTUS in memory. What the Democrats do in 2020 to keep moderates will be the determining factor in whether on not the end of this national nightmare comes then. It will be an in the gutter campaign where the White House Chief of Classless resides.
