I'm going to go back over the last several days and talk about some recruits in the picture who have visited.
I will start local with Jayden Woods who is one of the top 2025 local prospects in the area. Woods a DE from Mill Valley visited on Saturday and watched practice. Woods said he got to see how the defense worked and spoke with several coaches. He told me he will visit OU and KSU this week and saw Nebraska before the KU visit.
---------------
BJ Canady also visited on Saturday. He told me had surgery on his feet in December and that the pain is almost gone. "I'm doing way better. I don't have pain anymore."
It has been a while since he has been back on campus and said he liked seeing everything again.
"It was fun coming back to Kansas," he said. "Practice was electric and everyone was getting reps. I got to see more of the facility that I didn’t get to see."
---------------
An interesting story is Bodey McCaslin an OL from Illinois. He visited last week and there are several ties to current staff. His father Brad worked for Leipold at Buffalo and Nebraska-Omaha. He told me when he met the staff it wasn't like building a new relationship it basically going over it with people he already knows. He spoke highly of the staff and I really think the Jayhawks have a shot here. He knows every coach on staff who was at Buffalo and that includes Fuchs who would be his position coach.
---------------
The staff hosted Cooper Catalano a 2025 LB from Wisconsin. He told me he was impressed with the facilities and got to meet with Leipold. He said several members of the staff coached with his head coach. He said he liked how the coaches ran practice and worked with the players.
He plans on visiting Wisconsin, Illinois, and Northwestern.
----------------
Paul Mencke visited and came away very positive about his visit. He's a safety out of Texas and has a lot of recruiting interest. Like a lot of players who visit KU from out of state for the first time he said he liked the dorms and his meeting with Matt Gildersleeve. He said the staff told him the renovation is expected to be $400 million.
Mencke said his family loved the visit. He said he talks the most with Borland and Kotelnicki.
He said KU, Duke, Houston and Mizzou are four schools recruiting him the hardest.
---------------
A couple players I have touched base but haven't done a full interview of recent visitors are Wyatt Gilmore and Jackson Cowgill. I am supposed to talk with Cowgill today and Gilmore after his visit to KSU.
On Saturday Isaiah Marshall wasn't the only player from Detroit on campus. Montele Johnson a LB from West Bloomfield visited. Chris Simpson has been recruiting him hard and the Jayhawks are in the picture. That is the same high school as Cornell Wheeler.
-------------
Those are some recent players who have been on campus and I will have several stories on there visits with their comments.
For the spring game I am expecting a smaller group of key visitors. I don't expect a lot but will have an update on a few names I am hearing soon.
