The was a good editorial in the KC Star the was about Venezuela. It is how a country with the richest oil reserves has gone broke from inflation through embracing socialism. Sure, there are a number of socialist countries that have not gone broke, but how many of our allies would be able to say that if we were not the sole super power of the free world. If we were to adopt a modern day Monroe Doctrine how long would it take Russia and China to really rattle sabers? This is not to say that a country with capitalism for an economy can't provide some basic social programs for its people, but recently the far left and the far right are at such odds that nothing much is getting done.
