This seems to be gaining ground, so maybe we can zero in on it.
So, there's this notion that Bill's short leash mentality has somehow ruined the confidence of certain players.
Now Jesse Newell has written about it and it seems to be picking up steam.
Sorry, I'm just not buying any of that.

To believe that implies a couple of things.
One, our coach is a tyrant, and two, his players are a bunch of frail pussies.

Do you really think these guys are so weak that being challenged by their coach, the one they chose to play for, has somehow damaged their psyche?
Perhaps Bill should write poetry for them instead of Boot Camp?
Rather than stairs or the treadmill, something more soothing to the mind spirit and soul to really connect with their inner self?
Release those inhibitions, but for God's sake free their young minds, Bill!

What were the qualities most of us coveted about Bill Self when he rode into town?
Wasn't it his style and the toughness his teams exude?
Was it the glowing personality and respect he commanded when he walked into a room?

Say what you want about his coaching style.
But there's one thing that cannot be disputed.
He is a master communicator in every sense.
He knows as well as anyone, what buttons to push and how best to extract every ounce out of his guys.

One thing he will not do, is anything to harm them.
Sure he'll use tough love to push them to their limit, but that's how you tap their potential.
You don't reward poor effort with minutes, you make em earn it.
Any good coach knows that.

If anything, Bill just as most coaches worth their salt, will do anything humanly possible to prevent any damage to his kids.
He instills everything family and strives to build a solid relationship with his guys as any father figure would.
I can only imagine how the debacle with Cliff has eaten at his insides.
He has to be livid to see the opportunities that were taken from his prized big man.

Is he perfect?
Of course not.
He will be the first to second guess himself just as most humans do, when things don't go as planned.

There's my attempt at dispelling the latest myth as I see it.
Feel free to correct me as I'm sure some will.
