Looks like the Trump admin leaked a story to the NYT alleging that Rosenstein was caught saying he wanted to tape the president secretly, an allegation he denies. This is clearly a manufactured attempt of validating a reason for getting rid of him (see also: McCabe). If he resigns, Senate doesn't have to confirm the sycophant who replaces him.
They also likely fed the story that he was resigning to Vox this morning, so, the day after the New Yorker article runs about a 2nd Kavanaugh accuser AND Avenatti saying he's representing a third accuser, we have all this to dilute the news cycle.
Then it's announced there will be a meeting with Rosenstein on Thursday.. What else is going on Thursday? Oh, that's when one of the accusers will have their day in court to which she will describe the attempted RAPE and running of trains on drunken girls, etc.
If I was the reporter at NYT or Vox I'd burn my source publicly in print and in TV, social media.
