This has probably been discussed ad nauseum, but I'm trying to wrap my mind around the logic. The majority of America is made up of moderate Repubs and Dems; yet the extreme left and right runs the political process it seems like. Candidates have to run to the extremes to get the votes and yet govern from the middle.
My question is, why can't a candidate successfully run from the middle? It would match up with what the majority of voters believe. And as for the extremes, I have a hard time believing that the extreme right would just not vote or vote for a Democrat because the Repub candidate is not as extreme as them. Wouldn't the extreme right still prefer the moderate Repub over the liberal Democrat?
