I have been toying with this for a while and whether there is enough predictability to put something like this together, but what the heck. Let's have some fun with it. What I think a 2025 recruiting class (high school only) might end up looking like:
QB
David McComb--GREAT looking QB prospect that KU got on early and got the commitment from before anyone else could get to him. ESPN top 200 player. Did great things as a junior with his high school team. Amazing lettuce. Not a lot else to say about him but that we are probably all glad he is a Jayhawk. I don't expect us to take a look at any other QBs.
RB
Karson Cox--compact, strong runner with good speed. Top 30 player in California and top 30 running back in the nation, as well. Already has OVed to Arizona State, will hit KU on our first big visit weekend and then head to Oklahoma State the following weekend. I am going out a bit on a limb and saying if we get to May 1 and he hasn't committed to Arizona State, he ends up a Jayhawk after the June 7 visits and that we cancel the visit from Chad Gasper as a result. If Cox goes through with the visit to Oklahoma State, all bets are off and Gasper will get his chance to take the spot.
WR
Kamren Flowers--this is a tough get, and there aren't a ton of indications it will happen right now, but you have to put a few guesses out into the world and see what sticks. Super fast, not that big, would be a totally different element than what we have on the roster right now--comparable to a smaller Trever Wilson in style. Would be a great get against a lot of Big Ten interest.
Dylan Robinson--a more realistic get than Flowers. Similar profile, a little taller, pure athlete who could be good at a number of positions. Frame has room to grow. Great early offer list, and we are the only official visit that he has set so far. I feel good about our chances here. By contrast, I don't know how I feel about Terry Shelton, and Mayer Swinney appears to be off the list with his commitment to Cal.
TE
Ty Rupe--not a lot of action on his recruiting thus far, but a good looking, tall prospect from Texas. He appears to really want an offer from one of the big name schools and so far that hasn't come. KU could end up being a "last chair at the table" situation for him. However it happens, I'd be happy to take the kid.
OL
Anderson Kopp--Jayhawk legacy. Future of the program at center. Stud. So glad we got his commitment today.
(From here on, the blurbs and descriptions will be a lot shorter since i wrote them once and they disappeared.)
Trey Boyd--KU/ISU fight. I think we get him on campus and get the commitment.
Blake Cherry--gut call, think we have a shot with the kid.
DT
JuJu Marks--the big get in the class, needs to turn potential into production.
Brad Fitzgibbon--listed at DE, I see no way he doesn't move inside. Fight with Michigan State for his services.
DE
Cameron Brooks--would be a really good get as a SDE
Adrian Holley--not sure if he projects as a WDE or SDE, but I like his potential
LB
Malachi Curvey--already committed and I think will be one of the stars of the class
Christian Thatcher--tough kid from Nevada, will be a tough get
DB
Courtland Guillory--would be a huge get for us, tough competition but wonder if they won't all have seats left at the table for him
JoJo Scott--wildcard pick at DB, not much info on him out there, seems likely to be a KSU/KU battle
Jamar Beal-Goines--continuing the Desert Edge connection to KU
Note on DBs--I think we want a safety, and I don't think any of those three can play the position. I would love to see us in on Keon Young and wouldn't be surprised if we swapped him in for one of these three if we got a nibble from him.
This was a lot more extensive before, but hopefully still a worthwhile exercise. If we get 1/3 of these kids I will consider my predictions an absolute home run success, which is sad since I know I already got three of them right.
