Please explain, Trumpers

Here is the evolution of what we've seen from Trump on Russia:

There was no collusion and no contact with Russia; evolved to,
The contacts were routine for a candidate, no discussion of the election and no collusion; evolved to,
The discussions with Russia about the election were in passing, there was no collusion; evolved to,
There were discussions about the campaign, but collusion isn't a crime, and no one colluded; evolved to,
Trump didn't personally collude, can't speak to campaign staff

This doesn't get into Trump's repeated shifts on business (from, "I had no business in Russia," to, "I was talking with Russia about a business deal up to the election, and possibly beyond") and the repeated lies from people in his campaign that went from, "I never met with a Russian," to, "oh, you mean other than all those times during the campaign?" and the repeated lies about the Trump Tower meeting and Trump demanding that all notes be destroyed of his 5 meetings with Putin.

So tell me those who are massive Trumpers or more in his camp than not (e.g. BJ, 1vl, Hawker, etc.), if Trump is really so innocent, why does he keep lying and why does he keep having to change the story of what happened?

And change the crime and suspect. If you were a cop, would you believe the suspect if he was changing his story that much and ONLY after evidence comes out proving the previous position was a lie?
