I was wondering if you had any recommendations on how to lose weight without losing muscle.

I just concluded a food/fitness challenge at my gym. We got our body fat percentage taken before and after the challenge.

After a month, I lost about 8 lbs, but 2.2 lbs of it was muscle. Overall, I dropped 1.3% BF. I feel frustrated by those numbers.

I was doing HIIT for exercise. 3 days on, one day off. It goes about an hour. This was not an increase in exercise from my usual regime.

I'm 6'4, weighed 270 at the start.

I averaged 223 g of protein/day, 188g carbs day (no refined sugar, just fruit, veggies, rice), and 97 g of fat.
I averaged 2500 calories/day.

Obviously, I'm just looking for some general pointers you may have. I don't expect you to design a diet for me or anything. But does anything glaring stand out about what I may have done wrong? Any general tips on how to drop lbs without losing a ton of muscle?

ETA: I lost 2.2 lbs of muscle, not fat. I lost about 5 lbs of fat.
