Why are people groaning on about JD?
Yes, he had an unequivocally rough start to the year, but he finished the season 4-2 and had a QBR in the 90’s in 3 of those last 6.
The injury narrative is overplayed. He started the entire season and showed a lot of moxie and grit in several key moments. No argument here that Jalon needs to cut down on the back-breaking mistakes. He made plays to keep us in and potentially beat KState, but he also made plays that coughed it away. If he does tighten things up for a full season, he could go out on a really nice note.
I’m not overly concerned about him being limited in spring. Plus, I think he will have more big bodied, athletic options at tight end that help him work the middle of the field in a coach Z offense (an area we underutilized given his natural abilities to zip it into tight windows, or lay one just above a linebacker to a streaking tight end).
Been nothing but another great ambassador for my school and favorite team.
