Throughout the decade of darkness for KU football it felt like we constantly struggled to field conference level DLs and OLs. We might have a good player here and there, but we simply were not good in the trenches, and even if we could find enough decent guys to put on the field we had little depth.
It felt like we were always desperately looking for OL and DL recruits, we regularly fell short on filling our numbers, and we often had to reach on subpar guys that didn't produce. HCLL and crew have done a great job in establishing some consistency in the trenches. I love the young OL guys we got in the portal, such a good foundation for that group moving forward.
We definitely fell way short on the luck, close game meter last season and still finished 5-7. As long as we have solid coaching along with good talent and depth in the trenches, this will be a competitive program. It wasn't that long ago that just about everyone on here begged for just a competitive team that wasn't an embarrassment. With a little taste of winning, .500 ball is no longer acceptable to many, and we should expect this program to compete for conference titles in the Big XII. However, my memory is not so short that I cannot appreciate the program we have right now, even if last year was disappointing.
Game one, 2025, can't get here soon enough. Super excited to be in the new stadium.
