Lost in the horrific shooting numbers from Saturday's game - TONS of great looks from both the outside and second chance opportunities that were missed but were misses that grazed the front of the rim/left short. Shots left short = dead legs/fatigue and that's not overly surprising when taking into account it was the 3rd game in 6 days, brutal practices week before (after WVU debacle), faster pace, new players getting more minutes, etc.
Combine fatigue with road game, January, cold as shit outside, place our guys have never played.....not surprising to see us shoot poorly from the field.
I'm expecting to see continued inconsistencies and struggles on offense next few weeks as this team gets acclimated to new personnel, new roles/responsibilities, playing style, and in general teams needing more time to gel vs. prior years due to the heavy roster turnover seen these days (something I haven't been mindful of admittedly.) Come late February/March, I'm optimistic that we will see this team consistently shoot 33%-38% from deep and in general have less volatility in terms of our offense.
Do I expect this team to be as good on offense as the 2016-2018 teams? Not at all. But too much talent to shoot this poorly from the outside, and too athletic to only get 4 second chance points on 15 offensive rebounds. Things will get corrected.
Gonna be fun.
