SEC highest ranked team is from the Big 12
Big Ten highest ranked team is from the PAC 12
ACC highest ranked team is from the AAC
Big 12 highest ranked team is from the PAC 12
Why are the SEC and Big Ten schools shoe-ins for all the at-large bids?
I think, the Big 12 particularly, is being hit the hardest because the preseason projections were so bad. They get no credit for what they've done because they started off with the reputation of a doormat.
5 of the top 6 teams were projected to be in double digits, and the one that wasn't (ISU) was still outside the top 5. In fact, Iowa State at preseason #6 is the only team in the final top 7 that was projected to be in the top half of the conference.
1. Arizona State originally 16th (+15)
2. Iowa State originally 6 (+4)
3. BYU originally 13 (+10)
4. Colorado originally 11 (+7)
5. Baylor originally 12 (+7)
6. TCU originally 10 (+4)
7. Texas Tech originally 9 (+2)
8. Kansas State originally 2 (-6)
9. West Virginia originally 7 (-2)
10. Kansas originally 4 (-6)
11. Cincinnati originally 14 (+3)
12. Houston originally 15 (+3)
13. UCF originally 8 (-5)
14. Arizona originally 5 (-9)
15. Utah originally 1 (-14)
16. Oklahoma State originally 3 (-13)
If 3 of Utah, OSU, KSU, or even KU with how our schedule, finished at 10-2 like ASU, ISU & BYU, the Big 12 would likely have 2 teams in the CFP. At minimum there would be no talk of us not getting a first round bye.
