I was looking at a list published by another site that put things in perspective on our football team and the current situation. I was not surprised to see KU as the lowest ranked P5 school, unless I missed someone. KU is #72 overall and last in the B12. The rankings are done by a star system like Rivals uses for the recruiting rankings, but it compiles those rankings of the current roster. For example, KU only has 65 eligible. I suppose they were all ranked with some sort of star to earn credit.
This is pretty fascinating to see from a football perspective and amazing how the numbers tend to correlate with the success of the teams, however there are some significant anomalies. Some that stood out to me with connections to KU this season are as follows:
Overall Ranking- Out of ???, I stopped scrolling down at Drake at 200.
Rhode Island- 181
Texas- 11
Oklahoma- 17
WVU- 32
Missouri- 38
Oklahoma St- 39
Texas Tech- 44
Baylor- 46 (Suspect a major drop due to transfers)
Iowa St- 56
Kansas St- 70 (Ranked only 2 behind KU, disappointing record of 5-4 by their standards but has key wins against Texas, Texas Tech, and ISU). All 4 losses against very good teams and none of them blow outs).
Memphis- 81 (Ouch) Experience Advantage?
Ohio- 109 (Ouch) Experience Advantage?
These 2 blew my mind, as I would be surprised if we could even hang with them in a game. If they had the talent KU is rated to they might be in the top 10.
Navy- 124 (Key 2016 Wins: UConn, Memphis, Houston, Notre Dame!!)
USAF- 187 (Key 2016 Win: Navy)
