Self is a HOF coach. Love the guy. Hope he never even considers leaving or waits another decade to retire.

That said, times are changing. His approach needs to adapt. NIL is here to stay. The transfer portal is likely staying and/or still evolving.

For the past half decade Big 12 bball was king. The SEC and their wealth is surpassing us. Hell OSU in football bought a championship with $20 mil in NIL. I also have reservations about paying 2-3 transfers major $$ every single year on one year deals as a bandaid. Addidas and what money we do have should provide $15-$18 mil. Why isn’t that enough for 5-7 prime targets every year?

KU needs to do whatever it can to convince the Big 10 to expand and offer a bid. Im sorry bringing in $30 mil vs. the $65 mil going to each Big 10 team is not gonna cut it. Bama, Auburn, Tennessee, MSU are gonna rule both basketball and football. Hell they are even now directing major dollars to college baseball.

Generally I just think Self needs to take a step back and think about adapting. I do think he did do it to some extent to a greater level than Coach K, Calipari and Jay Wright before they jumped ship. But guys like him, Scott Drew and others are standing out as not keeping up with the changing times.

On the radio this week, they played old clips of Self mentioning that he listened to previous calls from Okie State. For the love of god, if Self left who the hell would we get. These coaches are unproven and unworthy to lead our KU program. It would suck to be a UNC, Villanova or UK.

Food for thought
