I'm not saying we have to do this now, but as someone who has both attended and taught at a community college, I wonder if trying to get the best juco players available could be an option. Not sure if the top ones are committed, but many have objected in the past to taking juco players because of their limited eligibility. In the NIL era, just how is that different from what we're seeing? There are a lot of talented juco players, and some have good height and/or shooting talent. So, even if the top portal players are gobbled up or not affordable, I'm not sure how many of the best juco players are still available, but that probably should be one alternative worth considering. Years ago, KU had a juco star named Lewis Lloyd ready to go if it couldn't get Ricky Ross. Lloyd went on to a fine career at Drake and played in the NBA.
Just a thought as we lick our wounds over Sarr and Williams.
